Georgia’s program is built around the Medical Cannabis Patient Registry. As of July 1, 2026, SB 220 significantly expanded it. Here’s everything you need to take part, step by step.

Your path to the card
- Have a qualifying condition Chronic pain, PTSD, cancer, and more. SB 220 broadened the criteria in 2026.
- Get certified by a physician Any Georgia-licensed physician treating your condition can certify you.
- Receive your registry card $30 plus a $3.75 fee, valid five years, mailed after DPH adds you.
- Buy at a licensed location Dispensaries statewide, plus independent pharmacies, a national first.

SB 220: the biggest expansion since the program began
The “Putting Georgia’s Patients First Act” scrapped the old 5% THC cap for a 12,000 mg total-THC limit and, for the first time, made vaporization legal for registered patients 21 and older. Smoking and edibles stay prohibited.
